Who understands Me but Me

My first impression on this poem by Jimmy Santiago Baca was that when I read it I realized that the poem was talking about how Baca's life was like when he was in prison. Through his own emotions he was describing what he felt at that time and the things he has seen. Also he describes that he lives like an animal.

Theme: experience in prison
Tone: lonely, abandoned, depressed
Imagery: "they paint my windows black so I live without sunshine"

Baca is talking about how things in jail were like because when someone is in jail they don't really see the sun because in a cell it's not colorful like in a real home and they don't have windows so you can look outside to see the sun or the world that is out there.

Immigrants in Our Own Land

My first impression on this poem was that the author sounds lonely and wondering how his life would have been different. When he talks about the immigrants that leave their countries because they have dreams and expectations but at the end those expectations and dreams are nothing anymore.
Theme- the night allows us to escape from reality to find peace in the harsh world.
expectations vs. reality
Tone- sad, depressed &lonely
Devices- metaphor: "Immigrants in Our Own Land", that the immigrants are actually the prisoners that are not free in their own country.
Free verse- the poem does not rhyme

    Emerson's child

    1. The way Emerson view the 2016 presidential election is that it would be important for him but to not worry too much. He would suggest us to move forward with our lives be believing in ourselves because we can make the world a better place for ourselves and for our community we should not let anyone tells us what to do or how we should act not even someobe that is racism like Donald Trump.
    2. The way Emerson would suggest us to learn in school or elsewhere is that we should pursue our goals is that it does not matter where we learn as long as we learn something new. The way he would view our school and aspirations is that he would tell us to pursue your dreams and do not let anyone stop you from accomplishing anything in life. What Emerson would tell you to do after high school and how you should prepare is by having a goal and making everything possible to accomplish that goal no matter what happens because everything is possible in life.
    3. What Emerson means by "yourself" is that he is trying to tell you to be yourself the person you are truly are when you are with parents or family members or when your in your safe zone. Many people are really different when others are not seeing because they are afraid to show their true self to the world because they might judge you because of your personality.
    4. The way I would express Emerson's main idea to a 10 year old is that they should be who they really are like how they act when they are at home with their parents because their is nothing wrong with being yourself and you should not be afraid to be you to the world because every human is special in their own way nobody can be perfect. Every person is special and don't be afraid to be yourself because there is nothing wrong with that.

    An Earth-Shattering Fart

What I thought about "A Sound of Thunder" is that the words of the author are very descriptive that you can pictured what the author is taking about. Another thing that I noticed was that "A Sound of Thunder" is easier to understand better than Emerson's Self Reliant. At the end of the story I learned that every action have consequences at the end and that if something was done differently then it was done before even if it was something of no importance it could have a big impact on the world. Like at the end of the story when I think it was Eckels that killed the butterfly and when they got back to the future everything was different because of the choice that he made he changed the world even thought it was something of not very importance bit actually it was very important in history.

    My Emerson

Our project is that my group and I are making a poster with the body of Emerson and then we write some of his quotes in the figure it looks cool because all the quotes represent Emerson and the person he is.

    Tuesday, November 1, 2016

    Emerson said it

    • "to believe in your own thought, to believe  that what is true for you in your private heart is true"
    - there is nothing better than your original self don't be afraid to speak up because of  what others may say don't every care about what they think about everyone is special in they own way.
    • "The secret of fortune is joy in our hands"
    - taking joy in your working is to enjoy doing something because you love doing it don't let nobody stop you, if done something and you feel proud of it then you know you have done something great.
    • "Nothing can burn your peace but yourself"
    - when you see someone that didn't something the wrong way but were rewarded and you have done something the right way and you didn't get rewarded then you don't feel good because it's not fair, if you do something and feel proud of it you know you have done it right
    • "Speak your latent conviction, and it shall be the universal sense; for the inmost in due time becomes the outmost, and our first thought is rendered back to us by the trumpets of the Last judgment"
    - your first thought is important because it's our first choice of how believe in life to be whether you choose good or bad.
    • "Just as a man who stands on his feet is stronger than a man who stands on his head"
    - people that stand on their feets can be independent and see the world for what it really is and people who stand on their heads are more dependent on someone or something and they don't see the world for what really is they have another perspective of the world.

LETTER TO MY MENTOR DRAFT 1

Dear mentor, why do you think that people are afraid to show the real person they are inside to the world? How come people think this why how come they are afraid or what are they scared of what going to happen? Many people are this way because they think that other people are going to judge them because they are not like them and because they don't like almost the same things that the others like. What is your opinion on why people act this way why they are afraid to show themselves to the world.

    INCITING INCIDENT:The Pedestrian

The inciting incident in The Pedestrian to me was when the police stopped the Leonard Mead and he was surprised that there was only one police car left in the lonely place in 2052. The most odd thing was that the police car didn't actually have a person driving or talking to him it was a self driving car that someone was speaking through a radio and took him away.

They also tell me how to behave in public because that is how they can tell the person I am by my actions. The always tell me to be who I am and to never be ashamed of myself. The person who I am is a wonderful person and if people dont like me that is their problem not mine. Another things is that I shouldn't hide my beauty over a mask because the true beauty is inside.

    Literature Analysis Questions #1

    1. A group of British school boys plane crashes on a island. Two of the boys find a conch shell and their names are Ralph and Piggy. They use the shell to call the other boys on the island. Once they were all together they choose a leader and they picked Ralph and then he picked Jack to be the leader of the hunter who were going to gather food. After Ralph, Jack and another boy name Simon went out to explore the island and when they come back Ralph tells the others that they should make a signal fire so passing ships can see them. So then they went to collect wood and the used the focus on Piggy's glasses to make the fire. The boys wanted to have more fun and play around then keeping an eye on the fire because of this the wood burns out of control and the forest is on fire and one boy disappears during the fire probably burned to death. The boys loved their life without any grownups around and all they did was play around. Ralph was mad because they should be building a shelter and keeping the fire on instead of goofing around. Also the hunter didn't catch the wild pig and Jack started caring more about hunting then building a shelter and getting rescued.
    2. The theme of Lord of the Flies is the conflict between civilization and savagery. This conflict is shown through Ralph and Jack in which Ralph represents civilization and Jack represents savagery. Ralph wants to set rules and protect the group and enforce their English society behaviors. On the other hand Jack wants to have power over the boys so he becomes the leader of his own group and makes them worship and serve him. As you can see civilization and savagery are two very different things.
    3. Based on the author's tone I imagine the author's morning routine that the author sleeps late. Drinks coffee with no caffeine. The author does no type of meditation and wishes he wasn't so hungover. At breakfast he eats cold food with no flavor that doesn't taste very good. The author lives in his house that is dark with no sunlight shining through the window. He lives by himself with no one else only him. The author writes about death and evilness. Examples in the story are: Piggy's death and Simon's death, Ralph and Jack's conflict and the evil that controls some of the boys.

    Reflection from week 1

The first week of school in Dr. Preston's class was okay. His class is not hard so far just that you need to post on your blogs a lot. I think that I will do okay in his class but I still need to catch up with some work that I am missing but so far it'seems been okay.

    YOUNG GOODMAN BROWN

Young Goodman Brown is a very interesting story. It's a gentleman looking for his wife and meets new people on his journey and they are all nice to him. One strange thing is that he thinks that the devil is coming for him but it is just his imaganation. The story is a little confusing to.

Response to "The Conscience of the Hacker"

The Conscience of the Hacker was an interesting story to read because it talks about teenagers that hacks computers but get arrested. There is also a boy who is a hacker who is smarter then most of the kids in class but he does not like school he thinks it's boring. The story talks about technology being more advanced because the boy talks about finding a computer that does what he wants. The boy feels like a computer because he is very smart and computers are smart so he see himself as one of them. He thinks that he belongs with the computers and not humans. He also thinks the world should be made of technology.

    Ancient Stories

    • The language in the text is different to the language we use in our everyday conversation because when someone writes something they can use punctuation, heading, capital letters, different types of layout and different letter texts. in our conversation we can't use any of those affects. In a conversation you can hear the persons tone and see the persons emotions and how loud their voice get when they speak. in a writing peace you can't feel the writer's emotions only if they tell you how they are feeling and you can't hear how loud their voice gets in the text. Another reason is that when you write you use proper English, but when you talk you talk slang and don't speak proper English.

    • It is not important that the story should be repeat word for word because no one can repeat a writing word from word. Anyone can tell the same thing but in their own words it doesn't have be the same as the original text if they are trying to say the same thing. An example is the telephone game. When the first person tells a phrase to the second person and they keep on going until they get to the last person and by then the phrase is not the same no more because the others have changed the phrase completely.

the earth on the turtle's back response

The story talked about a man and his wife and she fell into a hole that they pulled the tree that had four white roots. The wife fell into a water land place then the animals were trying to find the earth for the women to stand on. Then the tiny muskrat found earth and placed her paw onto the turtle's back and that is how earth was formed. I thought that the story was confusing but also made a little sense. a person can't live in the water life because they need to live on land.

    welcome message

    Hi,
my name is Araceli i am 16 years old. I'm excited to learn something new this year and excited to meet new people and see old friends again. I am hoping to actually learn something new this year. I'm hoping that my junior year would be a awesome year for me. Another thing is that I am excited to use open source learning instead of reading and doing work out of a textbook.
